The formal groundbreaking ceremony for the Ahmanson Law Center commenced on April 13, 1973, situated at the intersection of 22nd and California Streets. This event coincided with the Student Bar Association's Law Day Program. Distinguished speakers graced the occasion, including Roman L. Hruska, the United States Senator from Nebraska; J. James Exon, Governor of Nebraska; Eugene A. Leahy, Mayor of Omaha; Paul W. White, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Nebraska; and Thomas C. Clark, Retired Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.
