Thomas Ronald Delaney, a 1930 Creighton School of Law alumnus, was born in Marcus, Iowa, on December 15, 1905, and died in St. Petersburg, Florida, on September 30, 1989. He was in private practice in Baird, Iowa, in the early 1930s, then worked for the Federal Land Bank in Omaha, and in 1938 moved to Polson, Montana, where he was the attorney for Lake County, Montana. In 1947, he was appointed to the prosecution staff for General Hideki Tojo’s trial at the International Military Tribunal of the Far East in Tokyo. His role was to determine the admissibility of evidence. After the Tokyo Trials, he continued to serve in various government posts for the U.S. Department of State in Japan, Okinawa, Afghanistan, Liberia, Ethiopia, and Washington, D.C. In 1952, he received a letter of commendation from the U.S. Supreme Command for a cooperative law legislative accomplishment in the rehabilitation of Japan. He retired in 1971 and moved to St. Petersburg in 1977. His granddaughter, Karen Griffin, has put together a video about the Delaney family’s time in Japan. (http://youtu.be/_jbs4UYipUw)
