CFE: SPA & University Libraries Workshops

As part of the Creighton University Center for Faculty Excellence (CFE) workshops, the Sponsored Programs Administration (SPA) and the Univeristy Libraries frequently collaborate on live workshops to provide guidance on grant submissions processes, including navigating changing requirements and utilizing required digital platforms to create and maintain documentation.

Please see the information below for more information on past and upcoming workshop series.

2024 Workshop Series: SciENcv & the NIH

NIH Biosketch & Other Support: Using SciENcv

Starting May 25, 2025, the National Institutes of Health will require the use of SciENcv for Other Support documents; PDFs made from Word documents will no longer be allowed. This is a significant change, so Sponsored Programs Administration and the Creighton University Libraries want to give faculty and administrators plenty of time to learn about what’s coming. We will present on how to use SciENcv and the specific changes to this document. This applies to any faculty who plan to submit an NIH grant after May 25, 2025, as well as their administrators.

This series will include (3) 30-minute presentations to walk learners through using ORCID and SciENcv to create the primary NIH biosketch and the Other Support documents. The first series will be offered in November 2024 with repeated offerings in Spring 2025.

  • Session 1: NIH Biosketch: Leveraging ORCID for SciENcv Documents
  • Session 2: NIH Biosketch: Using SciENcv
  • Session 3: NIH Other Support: Using SciENcv

2023 Workshop: SciENcv & the NSF

Creating Your NIH & NSF Biosketches

SciENcv (Science Experts Network Curriculum Vitae) is a free researcher profile system for all individuals who apply for, receive, or are associated with research investments from federal agencies. The National Science Foundation will require that researchers create biosketches with SciENcv to apply for funding beginning Oct 23, 2023.  SciENcv also allows you to create a biosketch in the latest NIH format. In this workshop, we will walk through SciENcv to demonstrate how to use this tool to create an online professional profile to share with others for funding and other research purposes.
By the end of this presentation, learners will be able to:
•    Understand the importance of biosketches for research and funding
•    Understand the sections of a biosketch, focusing on NIH and NSF biosketches
•    Summarize the overall purpose of SciENcv
•    Navigate to SciENcv and successfully create a biosketch
