Scopus is a multidisciplinary database with citations and abstracts from peer-reviewed journal literature, trade journals, books, patent records, and conference publications. It provides tools for tracking, analyzing, and visualizing search results.
You will need to access Scopus through the Creighton University Libraries. You can search the database and view author profiles without an individual account. However, Scopus offers personalization features that allow you to set preferences, save searches, set up e-mail alerts, create RSS feeds of new articles from a search or topic, add applications to assist with research, and use mobile applications. You will also need an account if you wish to manage your Author profile.
After logging in with your Creighton University credentials, click the "Create account" box in the upper right corner. Fill in the information. Your email will be your username. If you have already created a personal account in another Elsevier product, like Mendeley you do not need to create a new account in Scopus. You may log in with your Elsevier credentials.
Each Scopus Author Profile is a unique record of that researcher’s publication activity. The details come from peer-reviewed articles and other publications that are indexed in Scopus where the researcher is specified as an author. The information in a profile includes the author name, affiliation(s), subject area(s), publications, citations, and co-authors. The profiles do not cover editorship, managerial or executive roles, or teaching positions.
A Scopus Author Profile helps to ensure an author's published research activity is visible to other researchers, librarians, and research leaders.
Some authors have similar names, or their names can appear differently in various publications. Similar to an ORCID iD, the Scopus Author Identifier distinguishes among similar names by assigning each author in Scopus a unique number and grouping all of the documents written by that author. For example, an author may appear as Lewis, M.; Lewis, M. J.; and Lewis, Michael in different publications, or there may be two authors named John Smith.
Each Scopus Author Profile is automatically generated using a dedicated matching algorithm that extracts metadata directly from documents indexed in Scopus. The metadata is all publicly visible information that the authors supply when they submit the documents for publication. The process links an author’s name with the published documents that they authored, provided those documents are indexed in Scopus.
Profiles cannot be changed by Scopus users. However, a user can request corrections to a profile if:
If any corrections are required, use the Author Feedback Wizard to send a request. If an author has publications that do not appear on their Scopus Author Profile, this may be because they are not indexed in Scopus.
If you have an existing Scopus author profile AND an existing ORCID, you can connect them to ensure both platforms communicate and so that both profiles also reflect additional identifiers. For example, ORCID would list your Scopus author identifier under its "additional identifiers" section, and vice versa. To connect your ORCID iD in Scopus, go to your Scopus author profile. Remember, to manage your profile, you need to have an individual Scopus account. Select the ORCID icon to connect and follow the guided prompts to verify the information communicated between the platforms.
