About Citation & Reference Styles

No matter the type of project -- whether it's a course paper, presentation, quality improvement report, or manuscript for publication -- it's important to cite the sources you use. There are various citation style guides available. Always be sure to check the requirements of your particular assignment or requirements of the journal you are submitting a manuscript to.

Below are some of the most commonly used styles in the health sciences:

American Medical Association (AMA)

American Psychological Association (APA)

Print copies are available on both Omaha and Phoenix campuses

National Library of Medicine (NLM)

Also referred to as Vancouver style, NLM is the standard for the International Council of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE)
