The flagship library of the Phoenix Public Library system, the Burton Barr Central Library, is down Central Avenue mere minutes away from the Health Sciences Campus -- Phoenix.

A Phoenix Public Library Account is available to Maricopa County residents at no cost. Residents outside of Maricopa County are eligible to apply for borrowing privileges to include an annual $40 fee. You have options to obtain a traditional printed library card or an eCard, for immediate remote access to electronic services.

* Laptop Lending Program: Individuals with a valid Phoenix Public Library account may borrow a laptop for 3 weeks at a time

* Culture Pass Program: A Culture Pass gives a library customer FREE admission for two people at participating arts and cultural institutions. Passes are available on a first-come, first-served basis. They cannot be renewed; they cannot be placed on hold.

* Seed Library: a variety of fruit, vegetable and perennial seeds available while seed supplies last.

The Maricopa Native Seed Library

The Maricopa Native Seed Library is a service of the Maricopa Community Colleges and has several locations. Anyone can visit the library and obtain seeds, no library card needed. To learn more about the seeds they offer, see the plant profiles and lists. Note that at all locations only 3 seed packets can be taken per month.

The purpose of the Maricopa Native Seed library is to provide free, native seed to the community, as well as education and information to make it easy to incorporate these plants into your yards, patios and balconies. Anyone can include some native plants into their residences, whether you have a lot of space or a small apartment.

The Good Fight : The Martin Litton Story [Video]

The Good Fight chronicles the extraordinary efforts of one of the leading conservationists of modern times, who continued his activism into his 90's. Martin Litton, known as the "Grand Old Man of the Canyon," is revered as the man who saved the Grand Canyon by preventing dams from being built on the Colorado River that would have flooded the Grand Canyon. In his 90's, his passion was saving the last of the giant sequoias. Litton was a close friend and cohort of famed environmentalists David Brower and Edward Abbey, as well as other major figures in the conservation movement. Brower first recruited Litton in 1952 for a successful campaign to oppose the construction of dams in Dinosaur National Monument. This campaign started a long association with the Sierra Club and lifelong opposition to dam-building on the Colorado, including the fight to stop the dams proposed for Grand Canyon National Park. Litton, honored with the Sierra Club's John Muir Award, was also instrumental in establishing Redwood National Park. An avid river runner all his life, Martin Litton was never daunted by the ferocious whitewater of the Grand Canyon nor fighting government bureaucracy on behalf of the environment:
